"THE PRIMARY TARGET WAS ACHIEVED"

More progress in Tikrit.
TIKRIT, Iraq -- Early-morning raids in Tikrit on Tuesday netted a Saddam Hussein bodyguard and two associates of the deposed Iraqi leader, a U.S. military official said.

"The primary target was achieved," according to Lt. Col. Steve Russell of the 4th Infantry Division. "It worked out very well."

"It was the very close associate bodyguard of Saddam Hussein -- longtime bodyguard -- inner circle to his immediate family."

According to Russell, the Army captured all the people targeted in the raids.

"Saddam's close associates seem to be very desperate," he said.
